Vine Ventures announces its enthusiastic support of a new broadcast-hour documentary motion picture by its advisor, Daniel Conrad. The production, Turning the Canvas, is about artists' responses to the global climate emergency.
"Daniel’s project resonates with Vine Ventures core values of ESG and Social Impact. We are proud to be associated with this landmark documentary,” stated Evelyn Y.K. Lee, Vine Ventures Managing Partner. “His vision and message are profound, and hopefully will provoke positive change."
Turning the Canvas will show work by contemporary artists trying to awaken us. It will be more of a provocation than an argument, showing painting, dance, sculpture, theatre, eco-art, and wilderness (to conjure our pending loss), and floating these scenes over dialogue by artists, activists, and scientists. With these scientists, it will explore artistic ways of more cogently communicating their findings. The goal is to provoke audiences to re-perceive themselves as part of nature, drawing them into the struggle for decarbonization and reforestation. It will be distributed to film festivals, schools, and public television.
Daniel Conrad holds MA’s in Immunology and Cinema. His ten previous films have been telecast on CBC, PBS (via APS), ZDF, TVE, ARTV, Bravo, and others; and have screened at over fifty international film festivals and museums, winning many awards. He was co-cinematographer on Mark Achbar’s The Corporation, and Executive Producer/Co-writer on Damien Gillis’s and Fiona Rayher’s anti-fracking doc Fractured Land. Publications include two articles forContemporary Aesthetics, a book chapter in Robert Wilson from Within (Arts Arena, American University, Paris), and a scientific correspondence with Tris Parslow (Nature).
